35 Jahre twining Karlsruhe – Nottingham

Robin Hood at the Rathaus

 

 

Even Robin Hood, the Sheriff of Nottingham and Maid Marianne were there in the “Bürgersaal“ of the “Rathaus” on Friday the 10th of December 2004 to celebrate 35 years of twinning between Karlsruhe and Nottingham. Alma Shipman, the president of the Karlsruhe Nottingham Friendship Club would not be denied the opportunity to done an authentic costume as Maid Marianne and the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, John Hartstone, proved to be far more open minded than his historic counterpart.

John Hartstone, who was greeted by the first mayor Siegfried König, signed the “Golden Book of the Town”. He emphasized: “… both towns should be proud of this friendship. It is a connection carried by the people, alive with active communication…

… the co-operation is extremely good. The best example is when Karlsruhe helped us to establish our tram.” Here: his entry in the Golden Book of the Town.

At the celebration, to which the English Consul General Mark Twigg also came, our president Christa Fuß is happy about the many activities and visits between the British and Baden town.

Not only our acting president (left) but also our designated successor, Rose Schrempp, was extremely pleased about the amount of guests present and about the praise bestowed upon the DEF.

Prior to the above the British-German delegation visited the Karlsruhe Christmas Market, especially the shared stall of the two clubs of the twintowns.
